Cattle Breeding Farm, Chadalawada, Prakasam district:

Introduction:

Cattle Breeding Farm, Chadalawada was shifted from Ramatheerdham to the present location i.e. Chadalawada village, N.G.Padu Mandal, Prakasam District on 31st March, 2001 vide G.o.Ms.No.23, dated 22.02.1999 and inaugurated on 12.04.2001.The Government of Andhra Pradesh has allotted 200 acres for this farm, out of this 200 acres, 102.78 acres is the endowment land of the Lord Raghunayaka Swamy of Chadalawada village and the remaining 97.22 acres was purchased from the farmers. The farm was established at Ramatheerdham during the year 1980 vide G.O.Ms.No 20, Forest and Rural Development (A.H III) Department

Objectives of the Farm:

  1. To stock 200 adult units of the best of the Ongole Cattle for selective breeding.
  2. To produce choice of Ongole breeding bulls for regenerating the Ongole breed.
  3. To undertake testing and selection of bulls for bringing genetic improvement in population involved.

COMPOSITE LIVESTOCK FARM, CHINTALADEVI :

Introduction:

The Composite Livestock Farm, Chintaladevi, SPSR Nellore district is in a remote place of Nellore District i.e. 61 Kms from Kavali and 90 Kms from Nellore and was established with the financial assistance made from the allocation of VII year plan and started functioning from 08-11-1985 .It was started under plan scheme and later converted to Non plan from 1990 onwards.

Objectives:

CATTLE DEVELOPMENT
The present project is proposed with an aim to conserve and develop the Ongole Breed in its breeding tract and also act as Bull Mother Farm to produce High Genetic Merit Bull Calves.

SHEEP DEVELOPMENT
1. Build up pure lines of Nellore Jodepi Breed of sheep to produce outstanding
2. Jodepi Rams for distribution to sheep Breeders corporative society.
3. To educate and train the farmers on advantages of the sheep farming.

History :

The farm was started in the year 1918. The following are the various milestones in its transition and development to present stage. The farm is the oldest one among all the farms in the State

1918 :Starting of the FARM.
1932 :Farm closed down and taken over by the Revenue Department.
1934 :Made into a Criminal Tribes Settlement by Police.
1949 :Revival of the Farm as a Unit under the control of Superintendent, Lam Farm, Guntur.
1954 :Made into an independent unit with a Superintendent as Head under the Animal Husbandry Department.
1965 :Introduction of 2000 sheep under CRASH Programme.
1972 :Taken over by the Andhra Pradesh Agricultural University and run as a Sub-unit attached to the All India Coordinated Research Project on Cattle, with a main unit at LAM FARM, Guntur.
1977 :Delinked from LAM FARM, Guntur and introduction of Commercial Cross-Bred Heifer Project.
1981 :The Commercial Cross Bred Heifer Project was abandoned and Sheep Farming was taken up with 1000 sheep of Jodepi and Pall breeds of Nellore for production of Lambs through selective pure breeding for distribution to farmers through SFDA,DRDA and other Government agencies .
1985 :The Composite Livestock Farm, Chintaladevi came into existence on 05-11-1985 under plan Scheme.
1986 :On 05-02-1986, 996.78 acres of land was allotted to Department of Animal Husbandry.
1989 :on 10-09-1989, 580 acres of Grazing Land was handed over to the Composite Livestock Farm (Animal Husbandry Department).
1990 :On 01-04-1990, the Composite Livestock Farm, switched over to Non-plan and another 1108.68 Acres of land was transferred to the Animal Husbandry Department.
2007 :On 01-08-2007 an extent of 281.24 acres of land was alienated to the villagers of T. Yerraballi under land distribution Scheme of the Government of Andhra Pradesh.
2015 :Bhoomi Pooja for establishment of NKBC Project at T. Yerraballi on 21-03-2015 by Hon’ble Minister of Parliamentary Affairs, GOI, New Delhi.

Land Allocation and Utilization:

Total land of 2468.82 acres available at Composite Livestock Farm, Chintaladevi. Out of which 500 acres of land is utilized for fodder production for farm animals. And the state government has contributed 506 acres of land for establishment of National Kamadhenu Breeding Centre, Chintaladevi. The remaining land is utilizing for construction of sheds ,buildings and grazing land for animals.

The farm is located at Chintaladevi of Kondapuram Mandal - a remote place in SPSR Nellore District i.e. 61 Kms from Kavali and 90 Kms from Nellore.
The Government of India announced establishment of National Kamadhenu Breeding Center in Composite Livestock Farm, Chintaladevi and laid a foundation stone on 21-03-2015. The main objective of NKBC is to Conserve, Preserve and Develop 50 recognized indigenous breeds which include 37 cattle and 13 buffalo breeds of India. Under the project various civil works and fodder development activities are in progress.
The CLF, Chintaladevi is headed by a Deputy Director (AH) and at present Dr K. Ramesh Naik, DD (AH) is stationed there.

Young Bull Rearing Centre, Nekaikallu, Guntur District

Introduction:

The BBC has windup its activities and handed over the campus to FSPF on 31.08.1997. On 05.10.2002 the Government of Andhra Pradesh handed over the entire land and farm to Andhra Pradesh Livestock development Agency (APLDA), Hyderabad to continue the breeding activities at this BBC farm.

The BBC farm is under the control of APLDA which is autonomous agency registered under societies Act of 1999 formed with assistance of Govt. of India under the National project for cattle and buffalo Breeding (NPCBB) and also assisted by Government of Andhra Pradesh.

Objectives:

The prime objective of this farm is to provide breeding requirements such as supply of natural service bulls to forest adjoining villages (i.e, where there is no Artificial insemination facility for up grading the local non descriptive cattle to high yielding superior stock in order to improve the economy of the rural farmers.), besides this, Supply of high pedigree bulls to frozen semen producing stations located in the state i.e, Visakhapatnam, Banavasi and Nandyal.

The state government has contributed 530 acres of land under Young Bull Rearing Centre, Nekarikallu, Guntur District, it consists of 3 units in various survey numbers.
Extent of land in main unit - 280 acres
Hill area - 120 acres
Tripurapuram unit - 130 acres

NATIONAL KAMADHENU BREEDING CENTRE, CHINTALADEVI, SPSR NELLORE DISTRICT

Introduction:

Govt. of India has initiated to take up Indigenous Breeds conservation and Development under Rashtriya Gokul Mission. In this context, Govt. of India has sanctioned National Kamadhenu Breeding Centre to the State of Andhra Pradesh vide Pro. Roc.F.No.3-30/2014-AHT (NPBB), GOI, Ministry of Agriculture, Department of Animal Husbandry, Dairying and Fisheries. for Southern Region with the grace of Sri.M.Venkaiah Naidu Garu, Hon’ble vice president of India .

Objectives:

A. To conserve and preserve Indigenous Bovine breeds; B. To enhance production and productivity; C. To upgrade genetic merit; D. To supply certified elite germplasm; E. To protect threatened breeds from extinction.
